Alfred Stieglitz - The Patron Saint of Photography

Alfred Stieglitz, on January 1, 1864 in New Jersey born, was an internationally recognized pioneer of "Modern Photography". In 1881 Stieglitz family moved to Germany where he worked his studies. He studied engineering and photography in Berlin. Alfred bought his first camera in 1883, marking the beginning of his passion for photography. He traveled in Europe, with several shots of landscapes and people from almost all forms of life. In 1886 he senthis painting "The Last Joke, Bellagio, in a competition organized by the British magazine, Amateur Photographer. Alfred won his first award here.

Alfred Stieglitz returned to America in 1890, where his father bought him a photo-engraving business. Stieglitz, however, never abandoned his first love, photography. In 1892 he bought his first camera handset. He was enthusiastic about his new found freedom and some of his best pictures of this year, "Winter, Fifth Avenue" and "The Terminal". In1893, he appeared in "The American Amateur Photographer magazine as associate editor and began writing articles on technical and aesthetic aspects of photography. He just won a loyal and enthusiastic. In the same year he married Emmeline Obermeyer Stieglitz at the urging of his parents . regrets marrying later, though, because he never shared his interest in art and culture.

In 1895 Stieglitz decided from his job and abandoned his career to devote his time to thePromotion of photography as an artistic medium. In 1896, he even managed to make the merger of the two photographic club in New York, (the Society of Amateur Photographers and New York Club Room) Club Camera. As Vice President of the Club House, has published the first issue of bonds camera, which has become the world's best photography magazine. In 1899, Stieglitz was the Club House the opportunity to present his photographic work on the first solo exhibition.

In1902, Alfred was the Photo-Secession club to promote progressive American photographers. He also directed the publication of the magazine Camera Work, to sponsor their work. This club has opened small galleries in 291 Fifth Avenue, the various forms of art exhibition with photos on it as one of the most progressive art galleries of his time. The club and the gallery closed in 1917, but Stieglitz continued to photograph and display. While working in 291 galleries, metand fell in love with painter Georgia O'Keeffe. He had found his muse and his artistic soul mate in her. Stieglitz divorced his wife Emmeline in 1918 and married in 1924, Georgia O'Keeffe.

During his life, Stieglitz worked tirelessly as a photographer of exhibitors and publishers, photography recognized as a means of creating art. His photographic works best, the others are classified into two files, one containing the portraits of his wife Georgia O'Keefe andis that the cloud forms in accordance with the emotional experiences, which he described as "the equivalent". The last decades of life, Stieglitz was for the management of tunnels and support of young photographers and various American and European artists. He managed the Intimate Gallery (1925-1929) and The American Place from 1929 until his last day. photography by Stieglitz in 1937 stopped because of heart disease and died in 1946.
