The Top Beaches Located Near the Big Apple

Long Island, New York has the best of both worlds with beautiful beaches and waterfront properties and also a short distance to Manhattan and everything that New York City has to offer. Many people have heard about the affluent Long Island, enclave of the Hamptons but there are also a few other wonderful beaches located on the largest island in the US say a violin teacher and a voice teacher. This article will explore some of the best beaches to go to on Long Island including the famous Hamptons. They are Jones Beach State Park, Robert Moses State Park, Fire Island and Montauk Point.

Being the best known location is The Hamptons beach and community. This is the beach location for many wealthy celebrities and other affluent people that live in nearby New York City. During the summer, The Hamptons is full of celebrity filled events and parties making it the place to be and be seen. Coopers Beach in Southampton and Main Beach in East Hampton are continually rated on Dr. Beach's world top ten list every year. Famous residents that live there permanently are Billy Joel, Christie Brinkley and Martha Stewart to name a few. It is also a great place for artists and has many high end galleries in the area. Besides the beautiful beaches, The Hamptons have great restaurants, shopping, art and nightlife for visitors.

There are two great beaches that are part of the State park system on Long Island. They are Jones Beach State Park and Robert Moses State Park. Jones Beach was built by master planner, Robert Moses in 1929 and is the largest public beach on Long Island. It is also the closest one to Manhattan making it an ideal destination for those who want to get out of the city for the day. It also has a 15,000 seat theatre where summer concerts play too. Robert Moses State park is smaller than Jones and less crowded. It does not have the Theatre or the waterfront, and that Jones also has the beach about three miles. The famous Fire Island Lighthouse is also in this park.

Another great beach of Long Island is known as the Fire Island and 32 miles of Long Island community with many beautiful beach and focus Island National Seashore. There are houses, cottages and hotels and shopping malls, restaurants and live music to make it a popular holiday destination. This isregularly voted as a favorite of all of the beach communities in Long Island for its beaches, charm and overall feel.

The last beach is Montauk Point and is actually considered part of The Hamptons but has a totally different feel. It is a very quiet area with rocky beaches that make it a favorite fishing area and one of the best on the East Coast. The Montauk Point Lighthouse is over 200 years old and was built in 1797 by George Washington and is a great thing to visit.
